Time to Blog On

I am not sure if even that by letting a month or so pass, that this task is any easier whatsoever. I don't even know how to start, but sadly, on Thanksgiving Shawn's stepdad, Jerry, lost his battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in July with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer). His last week was really difficult for him. So much pain. We are so thankful that God didn't make him suffer any longer. He went peacefully. We were thankful that we were there in town. Otherwise, we could not have gotten back home fast enough.

We extended our visit one more week and helped Shawn's mom get things taken care of. Then we drove back to OK. Then we got sideswiped just outside of St. Louis. I hope our insurance company is "winning" it has already been a month.

SInce then: 1. We have been busy getting ready for the holidays. I was SO far behind this year- with every aspect. 2. Somehow, I pulled it off. 3. Monday before Christmas Stella got sick- lots of vomit. Just as we were figuring out our plans for Christmas Eve mass (Stella still had to stay home), Nicholas started vomiting. So that took care of plans for mass. Then I got the flu on Christmas day. 4. We just had our Christmas dinner last night.

Today: I joined Sam's Club. Bought a chest freezer for the garage. Starting to feel like we are moved in.

Upcoming: 1. Nick starts swimming lessons (again). 2. I see my midwife next week. 3. Take down Christmas decorations. Get out maternity clothes when we put them in the attic. 4. Post pictures from Christmas. 5. Now that I am better, clean, orgainze, sew, blog (Jerry loved our blog so much).

Oh, and Happy New Year. This will be the lamest NYE we have ever had. I think Shawn and I are fine with that. I am still giddy over the freezer anyway!

Pap Pap/Jerry- we love you and will miss you in 2009.

So glad to have you back but so sorry for your loss.
We were sick here as well for Christmas Eve, actually an allergic reaction to antibiotic DURING mass! Much fun!

Happy New Year!

Glad to hear from you...wondering how you've been. I'm so sorry for your loss! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the last pic. So much can be read from it. I don't know how close to his passing that was, but it looks as though he is looking off in the distance for what is to come. He looks so peaceful! May he continue to be with you all in spirit!

Katie - I already knew about Jerry (via email) but again I am very sorry - I know it was hard on you all. The rest of your month sounds very similar to ours - we all have had the stomach virus twice now - I thought we were done with it and then boom it hit again and as usual went through us all AGAIN! The saturday after Christmas was so warm here in the upper 60's or 70's so I opened all the windows and bleached everything that would take it. I aired the place out and I thought this will be it but then boom Pink Eye! YEAH!!! Bradley woke up this morning with his eye matted shut. I swear if it is out there we will catch it. Again I am sorry for your loss and I hope you all feel better and have a very happy and healthy New Year!

Between having a newborn and having piles of people at our house, I don't know if we expressed how sorry we were about Jerry's passing. It's weird to write on your blog when you live a couple blocks away, but I wanted to say something after reading your post.

We're very very very glad you moved back to OKC. Here's to 2009! Your friends, The Nicksics
